Baku Schools Join a Composting Project with Bakı Abadlıq Xidməti and OCTOEN

Schools in Baku, Azerbaijan, have started turning their food and organic waste into compost. The project, run by Bakı Abadlıq Xidməti (Baku Improvement Service) and the EkoSfera Ecological-Social Centre, opened with a first event in Balakhani in December 2025. About 300 OCTOEN units are in use in Baku, including at the schools taking part.
Students make their own compost
At the first event, students learned how composting works, saw the equipment up close and made compost with their own hands. The compost will be used to green the school grounds, so every student can see waste become a resource at their own school.
It started in Lachin
The school project builds on work Bakı Abadlıq Xidməti began in Lachin, Karabakh. In December 2023, two OCTOEN composters of different sizes were installed on the banks of the Hakari river. Spoiled fruit, vegetables and straw are shredded in the machine, and compost is ready the next day. Today Bakı Abadlıq Xidməti runs 3 × ECO-1000 KSN in Lachin and Baku.
