Food Waste Became Compost On Site at COP29 in Baku, with OCTOEN Machines

During COP29, the UN climate conference held in Baku in November 2024, food waste from the venue was composted on site. The Azerbaijani government used OCTOEN units with a capacity of 1,500 kg a day for this work.
What the conference reported
The organizers' COP29 Sustainability Report says the conference invested in on-site composting machines and that composting cut emissions compared with incineration. In an interview before the conference, the organizing team said the compost would be used in Baku's landscaping.
Part of a wider program in Azerbaijan
More than 450 OCTOEN machines are in use in Azerbaijan. In Lachin and Baku, Bakı Abadlıq Xidməti runs ECO-1000 KSN units, and Baku schools take part in a composting project.
OCTOEN was not an official partner of COP29; the machines were used by the Azerbaijani government. See our work in Azerbaijan on our references page.
