Campus Waste No Longer Goes to the Bin at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University

Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University in eastern Türkiye turns the cafeteria and landscaping waste from its campus into compost on site. According to a June 2026 report by Anadolu Agency's Yeşilhat, the composter came to the campus with support from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and the Türkiye Environment Agency.

From the cafeteria to the green areas

The OCTOEN ECO-1000 KSN on campus handles up to 1 t (2,205 lb) of waste a day. Grass clippings and cafeteria leftovers become compost, which is used on the campus green areas, so the waste is neither hauled away nor wasted.

A model for universities

A university campus produces organic waste every day, much like a small town. On-site composting makes a visible contribution to Zero Waste goals and gives students hands-on environmental experience.
