İbn Haldun University in Istanbul, Türkiye, sorts the food and organic waste produced on its campus as part of its green campus program. The sorted waste goes through an OCTOEN shredder and an ECO-1000 KSN composter and becomes compost on campus. The system handles up to 500 kg (1,102 lb) of waste a day.
How the process works
It starts with source separation: food and organic waste are collected apart from other waste. The OCTOEN shredder then cuts the waste into small pieces, which speeds up the work inside the composter. In the composter, an automatic recipe runs a 12-24 hour composting cycle and reduces the waste volume by up to 90%.
What it gives the campus
Because the waste is processed on campus, less organic waste needs to be hauled away or sent to landfill. The university takes a concrete step toward its Zero Waste goals, and students and staff can see where their waste goes, right on their own campus.
On-site composting for universities
With dining halls, cafes and green spaces, university campuses produce organic waste every day. OCTOEN systems let that waste be processed where it is produced. Talk to us to size a system for your campus, or see more projects on our references page.
