Kars Municipality Makes Its Own Shelter Animal Food with an OCTOEN Machine

Kars Municipality in eastern Türkiye makes its own food for the street animals at its shelter. Suitable food waste is processed in an OCTOEN pet food machine and turned into animal food for the shelter.

Local production for the shelter

In its review of the mayor's first two years in office, the municipality said the shelter, with room for 2,000 animals, produces about 300 kg of animal food a day. In September 2026 the municipality also put out a tender to build a dedicated food production facility at the shelter.

Less waste, lighter budget

Turning food waste into animal food cuts the waste sent to landfill and eases the budget spent on bought animal food. Gerze and Şanlıurfa run similar projects with OCTOEN machines.
