Las Bambas Mine in Peru Composts Camp Food Waste with an OCTOEN ECO-5000 KSN

The Las Bambas copper mine in Peru has installed an OCTOEN ECO-5000 KSN to process the organic waste from its camp, the mining publication Rumbo Minero reported on July 30, 2026.

20 t in the first week

According to the report, the system takes up to 5 t of waste per cycle and reduces its volume by up to 90%. In its first week it processed 20 t of organic waste, which will become about 4 t of compost. The compost goes to revegetation work, the mine's nurseries and nearby communities.

Why it fits a mining camp

Remote camps feed hundreds of workers every day, and hauling food waste over long mountain roads costs money and fuel. The ECO-5000 KSN is a complete line with hopper, conveyors, shredder and an in-vessel bioreactor, sized for 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) a day, so the waste is handled where it is produced. OCTOEN systems in Peru and Chile are delivered and serviced with our distributor PESCO.
